I Want You

***This was written on July 20, 2015***

I can roam the longest valley here on earth
Passing by the goods that contain so much worth
I can look both high and low, but no matter where I go,
There is just one thing that I surely know

God, I want You. I can’t live without You for a single day.
Oh God, I want You. No force on earth can keep me away.
You gave Your life for a wretch like me. By Your Son, I am set free.
I don’t know why You choose to hear my cry, but here am I
Wanting nothing else but You

I sought riches and earthly pleasures, but now I understand
There’s no place I value more than in Your peaceful, loving Hands
It truly is a shame to thirst for power and fame,
Yet I never once considered the greatness and wonder of Your Name

God, I want You. I lift my voice to testify
Oh God, I want You. Nothing else will satisfy.
Lord, despite my deathly wrong, You reached down and gave me a new song
I’ll sing it to You. Jesus, I pursue You.

God, I want You. I can’t live without You for a single day.
Oh God, I want You. No force on earth can keep me away.
You gave Your life for a wretch like me. By Your Son, I am set free.
I don’t know why You choose to hear my cry, but here stand I
Wanting nothing else but You

No wealth, no glory will keep me from You
Nothing else will ever do
You are eternal, forever true
May my sight forever stay on You

I Need a Word From You

***This was written on July 10, 2015***

I find myself at that point in my life where I don’t know what to do.
I tried moving along myself. That didn’t help. So now, I look to You.
My seat isn’t high enough to see what You see. My strength isn’t strong enough to carry me.
I’ve relied on my own strength, I admit shamefully. Help me refocus my vision on those things most holy.

I need a Word from You. I need to hear Your Voice.
I need a Word from You. If You are willing, make the choice
To speak Your Will for me to fulfill. Otherwise, I won’t know what to do.
Speak to me, Jesus. I need to hear from You.

I cannot move without hearing from You first.
I will not turn away from Your Will to learn I took a turn for the worst.
Oh Lord, I don’t deserve You to hear what I say. But please listen to Your willing servant, I pray.
I recognize that I need You everyday. Take control of my life and have Your way.

I need a Word from You. I need to hear Your Voice.
I need a Word from You. If You are willing, make the choice
To speak Your Will for me to fulfill. Otherwise, I won’t know what to do.
Speak to me, Jesus. I need to hear from You.

I’m lost without You. I can’t live on my own.
There’s no way I can make it through all alone.
I trust in You with all my heart. You know what’s best.
You gave me a purpose, and You gave me a quest.

I need a Word from You. I need to hear Your Voice.
I need a Word from You. If You are willing, make the choice
To speak Your Will for me to fulfill. Otherwise, I won’t know what to do.
Speak to me, Jesus. I need to hear from You.

Unbelief

***This was written on July 3, 2015***
***Inspired by Pastor Diana Swoope***

Mark 9:22-24 22 “…But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” 23 And Jesus said to him, “You say, ‘If You can.’ All things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately, crying out, the father of the child said, “I believe; help me with my unbelief!” (Recovery Version)

When I close my eyes, I see it.
As I’m sleeping, I dream it.
I know I want to be it.
God gave me this vision for a reason;
But then I rise from my bed
I study my surroundings.
I contemplate my current state –
This space that I’ve been placed in;
And I wonder
How can this dream of mine come true?
This dream – this vision I’ve had since I was a boy;
The thought that made me smile when I longed for joy;
This thing that I’m most passionate about.

You are great and strong.
You can do no wrong.
You are full of power.
Your Name is a strong tower.
You are incredibly mighty.
Your presence stays with us daily and nightly.
No one is above You.
No one is in place of You.
There is nothing You can’t do.
There’s no such thing as impossible for You.
I’ve heard this all my life, since I was young.
It’s nothing for these words to be spoken by my tongue.
But for some reason,
My mind sends my heart a contradictory message.
Your Word says, “I can do all things through Christ…”
Which is why I try to be perfect, because my excuses won’t suffice.
Your Word says, “Know that I am with you always…”
But I know I’ve sinned enough to keep you away.
Your Word says, “Greater is He who is in me…”
But my greatness and worth are the size of a flee.
These contradictions reside in the back of my mind, like houseflies in July.
What happened to this Gospel given to me as a boy?
Have I had it for too long? Did I get comfortable with worldly joys?
I was told You can make a way out of no way.
There hasn’t been a day Your works hadn’t phased me – amazed me!
You held the sun and placed it where it needed to be.
You grew the mountains and poured water in the sea.
You made the stars twinkle, You gave the moon shape.
You’re the great Architect, designing the world’s landscape.
From nothing, You made oceans, space, and land.
It seems so large, yet You hold it all in Your Hand.
Not even death held You back from being strong and mighty!
So why do I doubt You can do something miraculous in me?
Through me?
With me?
If the same God who conquered death resides in me,
Shouldn’t that diminish my impossibilities and insecurities?
My mind still has that doubt.
I’ve tried to get it out of my mind.
I know You can do anything,
But my unbelief causes me to doubt me.

Jesus, save me from my unbelief.
Rescue me from my inner doubts and fears.
Help me, Lord.
Help my faith grow.
I believe You can.
Help me with my unbelief.

Benjamin Isaiah Black’s “FINALE: Curtain Call”

***This was performed live on April 22, 2015***

This was the last show I performed before I graduated. It’s me doing what I do best, doing what I love to do. It’s poetry, it’s mime, it’s film, it’s theatre, it’s music, it’s entertainment, it’s inspiring, it’s encouraging, it’s uplifting, it’s art, it’s godly. I hope you enjoy it! God bless you, and I love you!

What’s Your Excuse?

***This was written on June 26, 2012***

What’s your excuse?
Could it be there’s no evidence to satisfy you?
Look around. Do you see the people? The sky? The ground? The land?
He made us all in His image. He made everything with His Hand.
The universe is amazing, yes, but it’s not that grand
That it can create itself or the rest of the world.
You say you can’t see Him, but can you see the air?
Can you feel it? Can you grab it? Yet you know it’s there.
I had my doubts, too, I cannot lie,
But I promise He won’t let you down if you give Him a try!
He’s waiting – stop debating, and give Him your life.
What’s your excuse?

What’s your excuse?
You don’t think you’re worthy enough? You want to fix your sinful ways first?
You need to get right before you go to God?
God sees all of your faults, He knows them all.
There’s not a secret from Him you can keep – He never sleeps. I thought I could sweep up my sins without making a peep.
But then I found myself in trouble – deep.
I couldn’t do this by myself. I couldn’t rely on anyone else.
I found He would make me better if I put my trust in Him.
He knows who you are and what you’ve done;
He’s seen it all, but all He wants you to do is come.
Come and kneel before Him – give your life to His Son.
That’s all He wants so that He can make you better and stronger.
Don’t put off till later what you could do now. Don’t wait any longer.
What’s your excuse?

What’s your excuse?
Do you think you can put it off until later? There’s no rush, you think?
But your life could end in an eye’s blink.
No, seriously! You don’t know when your life’s clock is done ticking.
Choose Him now! Accept Him now while you still have time!
I’m not trying to scare you or preach in this rhyme,
But what if you leave this place and die tonight?
Perhaps it was by a knife, or maybe a gun. Maybe it was a car by which you were over run.
You fell off a building – you got caught in a fire. You had a mishap with an electrical wire.
You had an overdose on something that made you satisfied; or it could’ve been the last breath you made, your final sigh.
When you leave this place, we want you to go to the Divine place; but that’ll only happen if you submit yourself to the Grace of Grace.
Don’t wait, don’t delay, don’t let another moment go by.
Forget your excuses and come to Him now.
What’s your excuse?

What’s your excuse?
Please don’t spend another fraction of time
Wandering the earth searching for Peace you can’t seem to find.
No worldly possession or sinful pleasure cab full you up like the richest treasure.
Money, fame, power, lust, addictions, and control –
If not used for His glory, they’ll flee and leave you depressed, empty, and alone.
And why would you gain the world if it meant losing your soul?
Those things which your heart and spirit search for, He can be that AND more!
He will give you the power you need, the Love you seek. He’ll strengthen you with His Hand and will also be strong when you’re weak.
I guarantee it – He loves you enough to accept you how you are today, and He loves you too much to leave you that way!
You’ve got nothing to lose, everything you want and need is right here.
If He did it for me, He can do it for you, too. You’re tired of something in your life? He can fix it like new!
Don’t prolong it anymore, why live in the struggle? Choose Jesus now; no excuse is worth your soul.

Clothes Taken Off

***This was written on March 14, 2009***

On Sundays we praise and worship God at church and speak in tongues
We preach against smoking ‘cuz it’ll damage our lungs
We preach religion in the streets, at our jobs, and at school
We arouse the argument “Serving God vs. Being Cool”

When we’re in public it’s easy to preach Jesus into souls
We can put on the “Jesus” act when we’re outside of our home
“May blessings and peace be bestowed upon you”
“Jesus loves you, and I do too.”

But when we’re inside our house, funny how our normal behavior is revealed
We don’t have to hide anything in our own home; nothing’s concealed
We take off our faith in Jesus like we take off our clothes every night
Leaving those we fooled confused, scared, and left in a fright

There are too many phonies representing Christ wrong
The world needs spiritual people to sing the Good Song
Not having a religion in God, but a relationship with Him
If we want the world to be drawn closer to God and leave behind its sin

Love more, give more, live truly for Jesus Christ
Evacuate posthaste the darkness of sin and go to His light
His yoke is nice and easy, His burden’s light and soft
Are you a true Believer, or are your clothes taken off?

B.I.B. the Christian

***This was written in October 2006***

Over 2,000 years ago, Christ came into the world
I know this because I read the Bible: God’s Word
Christ is the Son of God; I know this to be true
He was born. He died and rose again for me and for you

Satan said to God, “Give me the keys to the people’s souls.”
“I have my own way of dealing with those people, as you know.”
But instead, God said, “I’ll send down My Son.”
“He’ll die for the sins of everyone.”

Years later, Jesus came in the form of an Infant Child
He was so peaceful; so tender and mild
Shepards came to visit and give Him praise
There was the very first Christmas Day

When He was 30, He began to teach
Many thought that He was a prophet that came to preach
He spoke the Truth, blasted evil, and did miracles that were hard to believe
He walked on water, calmed storms, made the lame walk, and the blind see

Jesus told the people He was the Son of Man, the Bread of Life
People thought He was a prophet. Maybe the Son of God. Could it be? He’s the Christ?
Some people loved and followed Him; others despised Him
They tried to stone Him, and even tried to lie on Him

At the age of 33, it came time for Jesus to die
Picture Him getting beat up and spit on, as He tries not to cry
He didn’t want to do it; He didn’t want the pain
But He said, “I’ll do it to praise My Father’s Name”

On a cross with nails in His Feet and in His Hands
People made fun of Him, not knowing that this was God’s Plan
So Jesus died on Friday afternoon that day
On Sunday, women saw that He rose; “Hallelujah!” is what you’d hear them say

He went back up to God, and angels told us to spread the Word
About Jesus and His Words and His Teachings that we heard
We have to make it known of what Satan’s trying to do
We have to speak about the rapture and say that Jesus is coming soon

We must be an example of what Christ is to others
We must love our friends, enemies, teachers, fathers, sisters, mothers, and brothers
Love one another just as Christ has loved you
Forgive everyone and God will forgive you too

Read the Bible so you’ll know about God’s Gift of Love
He reigns down His blessings and mercies on us from up Above
Something you have to do everyday is pray
Learn how to talk and listen to God about anything everyday

Be in the world, but not of it; follow Christ, not your friends
Don’t say that you’re sorry and then do sin again
Let your light shine for God and praise His Name
Let people know about His Grace and His Love that reigns

There’s so much more that I could write about Jesus Christ
Like how He’s given me blessings, and given me life
But if I could leave you with something, don’t be spiritually dead
Put Jesus Christ first, and make Him the Head
